Teach Makeup and Skin Care

Have you asked yourself this question? If I want to Teach Makeup and Skin Care classes in my home, what equipment  will I need for a small class of six or less students?

First I want to say congratulations on booking a makeup class.  This is one of the best ways to attract customers and build relationships.

You want to keep your table clean and simple.  So here goes:

Sanitation-  To prevent infection and keep products clean minimum use of sanitation requirements are a must for home makeup artists.  Because of bacteria, which can be harmful and produce diseases, The home makeup artist “teacher” must know how to maintain sanitary conditions for each customer in her class.

Be sure to disinfect each area that your student will be sitting at.  Her  work surface should be equipped with the following supplies.

  • Place mat
  • A clean sanitized steel palette with disinfected brushes, tools and cosmetics.
  • Hand sanitizer
  • Alcohol- 91 percent isopropyl or higher alcohol for lip and eye pencils
  • Sharpener
  • Tissue’s
  • Disposable mascara wands
  • Cosmetic sanitizer and
  • Brush cleaner on hand at all times
  • Separate clear plastic bag for disposable applicators and used brushes

Be sure to emphasize that No one should double dip the mascara wands and applicators.  This is unhygienic and can be a breeding ground for bacteria.  Always throw them away after each use to prevent spreading of virus and bacteria.

Keeping everyone safe will be appreciated and help with future bookings. You are the expert and following this simple but most important step will show that you are.

A chair for each person-   This is self explanatory.  You want everyone to be comfortable and not have to stand for hours.  That's your job.  However, it is OK for you to sit. Test this and see how it feels for you and your audience.

Applicators-  Are key tools in your beauty routine.  These include makeup brushes, and applicators such as the small little sponge tip wands, cotton swabs, sponge wedges.

Utilizing makeup brushes assures a higher quality of cosmetic application as compared to using the fingers.  Fingers are usually not a good idea when applying makeup.  The liquid doesn't get absorbed into the skin and just sits on top of your fingers, for a heavy application.  Think finger painting in kindergarten.

The basic brushes that you will need are:

  • Foundation Brush-  have long, flat bristles that are tapered at the ends, allowing for accurate and precise application of foundation or concealer.
  • Powder- are big and fluffy, with many bristles to pick up loose powder. These brushes are to dust makeup powder evenly and loosely across the skin.
  • Blush- used for adding blush colors onto the cheeks.
  • Eyeshadow brushes- have at least three different types.

Cosmetics- Makeup and Skin Care

Last but not least, make sure that you have plenty of makeup and skin care products at each persons station.  Or you can even have two or three people share a group of products.  Have these groups of products arranged so that people can easily reach them without reaching over someone else.

Minimum products to use should be:

  • Cleanser
  • Moisturizer
  • Eye cream
  • Eye-shadows
  • Eyebrow pencil
  • Eyeliner
  • 3D Mascara
  • Lip-liner
  • Lipstick
  • Blush

The goal is to have your students/customers try on as much as they can and feel comfortable with.  The more they try on the more they will buy.  If they only try on one or two products, than they will only buy maybe one or two products.  This is so much fun for people and they really love to buy what they try.

Face Chart

This is my favorite tool.  As you teach each application, your student can make notes or apply the colors right to her face chart.  You want to instruct her to write down on the face chart all of the colors that she is using.  This will help her to remember what she used,  and will have it as a reference for later use,  just in case she wants to order at a later time.

FYI-  Make sure that your information such as your name, website, phone number is printed on the face chart so that she will be able to order from you quickly and easily.

So get the products on them, and have a blast.

Good Luck
